Is Planning Permission Needed for Skylights and Rooflights in Grantham?
It will depend on several factors. For instance, as long as the new roof window does not protrude above the highest point of the existing roof, or more than 15cm above the existing roof plane, you may not need planning permission. However, if your home or business is a Listed Building, or it is located in a National Park or other Conservation Area, it's almost certain you will need planning permission.
Can I Install Skylights or Rooflights Myself?
You can try but we would strongly recommend against it. In almost all cases when post-installation issues pop up the problem can be traced to either poorly engineered discount skylights or a self-installation. The roof is a deceptively complex feature and no one should attempt to add something to the roof if they do not have extensive experience with roof work. If you like we can recommend a local contractor with the requisite experience installing skylights.
