Glazing details:

*Centre pane U-value is a measure of the thermal efficiency of the glazing type.

#Ud-value is a measure of the thermal efficiency of the whole rooflight (calculated in accordance with NARM Technical Document NTD2).

~Glass glazing option is not available with the access hatch option and limits other opening options depending on size

Part L Building Regulations require a U-value of at least 2.2W/m2K: Brett Martin Daylight Systems recommend the use of at least triple skin rooflights in all applications

Dome rooflights are an excellent option for your home or business. They provide a multitude of benefits and advantages you won’t find in traditional skylights. So if you’re looking to give your space an updated look and feel, Mardome Trade has you covered.

What is polycarbonate?

Polycarbonate is a strong, lightweight material that is frequently used in rooflights. Unlike glass, polycarbonate is virtually unbreakable, making it an ideal choice for areas where safety is a concern.

Polycarbonate is much lighter than glass, making it easier to install and less likely to cause structural damage if it is broken. In addition, polycarbonate panels can be tinted or coated to provide UV protection, making them an excellent choice for sunrooms or other areas where glare is a problem.

Polycarbonate rooflights are an increasingly popular choice for both commercial and residential applications.

What are the advantages of polycarbonate?

Polycarbonate rooflights are a common and cost-effective way to allow natural light into the property. This is a common rooflight material used on commercial and residential properties. Polycarbonate allows more security, strength and privacy as opposed to glass. Polycarbonate is incredibly resistant to impact and nearly 250x more than glass along with polycarbonate being more lightweight.

Can polycarbonate rooflights be custom made?

Polycarbonate is only available in the set moulds on the drop-down menu and cannot be customised. The best option would be to check whether ordering with or without a builder’s upstand may suit your measurements first (Please see our fitting and measurement tab). If this is still not suitable, we would suggest you would require adjustments on site to the build to match the nearest size to the drop-down menu based on whether this is with or without an upstand selected and then to build according to the correct measurement. Alternatively we can supply custom size glass rooflights.

If I am Installing onto a builder upstand, what size do I need to order?

When ordering the Mardome trade polycarbonate rooflight and fitting onto a builder’s up-stand you would order your external kerb to kerb measurement. This rooflight has two different measurements to go by and this is based on whether a customer orders with or without an upstand. Please see our roof light fitting and measurement tab on each product page for more information.

What is U value?

The U value is a measure of heat loss in a structure. It is the amount of heat that flows through one square meter of a material in an hour when there is a temperature difference of one degree Celsius between the inside and outside surfaces.

The lower the U value, the better the insulation properties of the material.

Polycarbonate rooflights are a good choice for thermal insulation as they have low U values. This means that they will keep the heat in your home, making it more energy efficient. In addition, polycarbonate rooflights are also durable and easy to maintain, making them a popular choice for both commercial and residential buildings.

How do I achieve a better U-Value?

The U value can be improved by selected the polycarbonate roof light glazing levels of polycarbonate sheets. The glazing can be selected from single to quad glazed and the more glazing then the better the U values. We always encourage customers to review their U value requirement to ensure the glazing matches this.
